Shared expense settlement

Compare each person's payment with an agreed equal share.

For each person, enter the same agreed group expense and participant count, then compare their payment with an equal share. Positive balance means paid above share; negative means below. The sheet does not move money or reconcile different group totals automatically.

Start with the decision

Who has paid more or less than the agreed equal share?

Individuals reconciling a small shared expense.

From input to next step.

  1. 01

    Agree the boundary

Choose one expense group, one currency and equal sharing. Use another method if shares differ.

  2. 02

    Reconcile group inputs

Repeat the same total and participant count for every participant and ensure payments add to that total.

  3. 03

    Confirm balances

Review all rows together and agree any settlement outside the workbook. Do not infer a complete reconciliation from one row.

A look inside

The example, in plain sight.

Before you use the result.

  • Zero participants leaves shares unavailable.
  • Every row must use the same group total and count.
  • The payment sum must equal the group total.
