Build a chronology you can trace to evidence
The summary,

This is page one of the report, as it appears inside.
Separate the event from the assertion about it. Each chronology entry needs a date or date range, a precise source reference, a description and a verification state. Conflicting accounts should remain separate until a reviewer resolves them. A neat timeline without traceable sources creates extra checking work and can conceal uncertainty. Register source documents before extracting events. Assign stable source IDs and record document dates independently from event dates. Add candidate events with page or message references and preserve the relevant excerpt in the controlled case system. Mark whether the date is explicit, inferred or disputed. A reviewer checks each accepted event against the source. Group related events without deleting the original records.
Do not automate acceptance of facts. A smaller checked chronology is more useful than a comprehensive-looking timeline with unsupported entries.
