Start with the decision

How much contribution remains after the proposed discount?

Small-business owners considering a price reduction.

From input to next step.

  1. 01

    Use a like-for-like unit

Enter one product or service unit and its variable cost on the same currency and tax basis. Keep fixed overhead separate.

  2. 02

    Enter the proposed discount

Use the actual percentage reduction. Assume unit cost does not change unless you create a separate scenario with evidence.

  3. 03

    Review the required volume

Compare contribution before and after the reduction. If discounted contribution is zero or negative, no positive unit-volume multiple restores it under these assumptions.

Before you use the result.

  • More volume may require extra capacity or overhead.
  • A volume multiple is not a demand forecast.
  • Do not confuse contribution with net profit.

A unit-contribution scenario; it does not recommend prices or predict customer demand.
